Manufacturing majors look to hire more women engineers
Several Indian manufacturing conglomerates including Larsen & Toubro, JSW group, Tata Power, and Vedanta have increased their intake of female engineering graduates at entry-level with a greater focus on diversity and innovation. In 2023, JSW group has almost tripled the number of female engineers hired through the graduate engineering trainee program. Similarly, L&T inducted over 3,000 trainees in FY23, out of which 30% were female engineers.Several large Indian manufacturing conglomerates, including. the likes of Larsen & Toubro, JSW group, Tata Power, Vedanta, among others, have. increased their intake of women engineering graduates at the entry level, even as the sector still remains predominantly male dominated.
In 2023, JSW group has nearly tripled the number of women engineers hired through gradate engineering trainee (GET) programme as compared to last year. It has hired more than 2,300 young GETs, of which nearly 600 are women and has set a target of 30% in the next two years. L&T inducted over 3,000 GETs in FY23 across its various businesses, of which 30% were women engineers. Tata Power has 23% women representation among engineering trainees in 2023, up from 21% in 2022. Out of the 1,,300 GETs to be onboarded by Vedanta this year 30% are women, up from 27% gender diversity in the cohort in 2022.
