Asia Pacific private equity deal value plunged 44% year-on-year to US$198 billion in 2022, ending two years of record dealmaking, said Bain & Company recently when releasing its Asia Pacific Private Equity Report 2023. Slower economic growth , declining consumer confidence, falling manufacturing output, high inflation, and mounting global and regional uncertainties resulted in a perfect storm which dampened investor sentiment, the firm noted.

Reliance Industries will dominate the mix with a large investment programme across oil-tochemical, new energy and digital services businesses, the report said. Bharti Airtel, the second largest private investor, will spend huge sums on 5G rollout. The ratings agency said corporates rated by it will see a 10%-12% rise in capex in FY23 and FY24, even as it cautioned there were risks to this revival.

We have asked all the states to make the whole process electronic and file all the updates by June 30," a senior government official told ET, adding that over 30 SPSEs had not updated their annual accounts post Covid.

While internal debt rose 2.1% to Rs 125.24 crore as of December 2022 from the previous quarter, external debt totalled Rs 9.17 lakh crore, up 6.1%. The centre’s other liabilities grew 5% during this period to Rs 11.96 lakh crore, showed the data.

Indian goods and services exports have crossed the USD 750 bn-mark for the first time, news agency ANI reported Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal as saying at an event on Tuesday. “There’s obviously much faster growth in services, but growth in both (merchandise and services exports) is good. Probably we will end the year with about $760 bln (in exports), if not more,” Goyal told reporters.

The Conference Board reported Tuesday that its consumer confidence index rose to 104.2 in March from 103.4 in February. Optimism about current conditions fell, though consumers grew slightly more positive about the short-term future. That's a reversal from recent surveys.
