There’s no activity in finance that doesn’t involve an interest rate. Even if you have a Soviet planned economy, you need to allocate resources across time. This is a point the Bill Gross, PIMCO’s former sort of Bond King, was making very early on in the era of zero rates. Now, negative rates may seem a lot worse.
