Freight in Flux: Regional Contrasts Shape the U.S. Trucking Landscape

During the first quarter of 2025, U.S. truck freight volumes and spending declined overall. According to the U.S. Bank Freight Payment Index , truck freight volume dropped 5.8% quarter-over-quarter and 13.8% year-over-year. Freight spending fell 2.5% from the previous quarter and 8.6% compared to a year earlier. Both sets of metrics are indicative or an economy that is contracting.
