The 2024 Budget Priorities for CFOs report revealed that technology is the top of the list for increased budgets in 2024, with 82% of CFOs planning to spend more than they did in 2023.

Last month, I mentioned that CPI inflation measures were based on lagging BLS measures of Owners’ Equivalent Rent (OER). BLS highlighted housing prices, headlining the CPI report as “CPI for all items rose 0.3% in January; shelter up ” As the chart above shows, Shelter was 2/3rds of the increase in the most recent. Income Tax department issues notices to taxpayers for donations to unrecognized political parties

The Income Tax Department has issued notices to taxpayers who made donations to political parties registered but not recognized by the Election Commission, for fiscal years 2021 and 2022. The notices under Section 80GGC of the Income Tax Act aim to investigate whether such donations were used for tax evasion and money laundering. Around 5,000 notices have been sent so far, targeting donations to about 20 unrecognised political parties.

India's retail inflation moderates to 5.10 per cent in January

India's retail inflation has eased to 5.10% on an annual basis, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation. This is a decline from December's four-month high of 5.69%. A Reuters poll had predicted a three-month low of 5.09%. The inflation rate remains within the Reserve Bank of India's tolerance band of 2-6%.
